Maja Molin is a Swedish artist, based in Stockholm and on the island of Gotland. Painting and drawing has always been her greatest interest in life. After studying at an art orientated upper primary school and secondary school, she went on to study traditional painting at the art school Paletten in Stockholm. She later moved to London where she got a Foundation Degree in Fashion Design and Technology at London College of Fashion. After eleven years living and working in the UK she is now back in her home town of Stockholm. She also spends a lot of her time on the island of Gotland, where the nature and the special colours of the sky have always been a great source of inspiration.
In her paintings she likes to work in acrylics. The fast drying paint gives her the opportunity to work in many layers, which also becomes an important part of the process. In her drawings she often uses a mix of watercolour and charcoal pencils together with marker pens. The women play a central part in her works, faces of the past, the present and the future. In a land between dreams and reality, somewhere deep inside ones soul, a different dimension is taking place. Nature becomes a mirror of the journey through life.
”It is dark on the bottom of the ocean. Lost in the shadows, swallowed by darkness. Growing up, becoming a woman. Broken hearts, broken dreams, broken everything. In the eye of a storm, everything is silent. The mood of the sky tells more than a thousand words when one can not speak. A flower that has once been planted should not be destroyed. Underneath the soil, its roots will spread and grow stronger, and it will blossom once again. And again. The sun will rise in the morning.”
